This is the first year that I've had a garden in several years. I decided to start small because I wasn't sure how much time I'd have and I was certain that I'd be tending it mostly myself.
So, I planted tomatoes - four kinds: Early Girl, Better Boy, Yellow, and an Heirloom Black Krim. Also several pepper plants were included: two green, one yellow banana, and one jalapeno.
Here's the Early Girl plant which has three good sized tomatoes growing so far, with several other clusters that have just recently popped out.
The weather here in central Indiana has been great for garden growing - lots of rain lately with many days in the 80's and low 90's. That's great weather to grow veggies in!
This is a picture of my green pepper plant! I planted two of these that my Dad gave me and they are doing so well.
I still have lots to learn about gardening. I planted the tomatoes a bit too close together so they are bunching up against each other. Not much room for tomato cages, but I do have them staked.
I also planted marigold flowers around the entire edge of the garden to keep the insects down and for the most part the critters are keeping their distance, too.
I'm so anxious to start picking tomatoes and peppers from our little garden! I'm imagining some wonderful homemade salsa and many salads in the very near future!
Tonight my sweet neighbor, Charlotte, called me over and gave me a bag of cucumbers. I love fresh cucumbers - whether eating them with ranch dip or hummus, cut up on salads, or in a cucumber onion salad - they are a favorite of mine! I didn't plant any this year, but Charlotte's one single plant is producing more than she can possibly eat herself, so she is sharing with me (Ed & Emilee won't eat them). Bless her!
Tomorrow is a special day at our house. Hopefully, I'll have time to share again as the day unfolds.
oh to garden in the midwest.....the temps here in OK are over 100 degrees. the garden just goes into brain crank and stop doing anything. We are trying to baby everything along until it gets a tad cooler. :) Your garden looks beautiful!

Everything looks beautiful. We have a few tomatoes coming. There is absolutely nothing as good as fresh tomatoes.
Cukes (as my grandma called cucumbers) don't get along with me!
